And eventually energy heavy builds end up with no sp to be gained by using energy, whether due to energy-PL build that speeds through energy-content or due to energy heavy build that refills a lot thus speeding through content.

With high level spenders you can assume all gems are available.
If you have rat legs, you have silver ingots piling up the walls with no use ; Wind fury is the only one that really takes specific hunting for, all others are available from many enough monsters of interest to be dropping in quantity.

It's highly likely that having the big earth fury gem in offense setup makes it worse than having empty slot in its place — if you're facing someone with earth protection.
Would you really want to take the chance that your most needed offense equipment, the one with damage rune in it, is going to be detrimental to your ability to hit the target?

Let assume the following scenarios: Attacker has 10000 eAttack Defender has 10000 eDefense they are evenly match.
Scenario 1: Defender equip item with 30 natural resistance equivalent of 3% eDefense + no gem edef: 10000 item resistance, 3.
So it seems to me that it is better to have earth gem fury equip.
At least when the defender does not have earth gem protection, then attacker will have an advantage.
Note that all I know about elemental effects have been gathered from limited testing and limited amount of information devs have given on the forum.
Piercing or Resistance listed in elemental gem is always active.
It's taken into account regardless of how elemental properties end up being.
If attacker has no elemental offense, then elemental defense plays no part.
If attacker has elemental offense but it does not match with any elemental defense nor elemental weakness of the defender, it plays no part.
Only if attacker has elemental offense that matches defender's elemental defense or weakness are elemental properties considered at all.
In case attacker's elemental offense matches defender's elemental weakness, then either the attacker gets piercing-like elemental bonus or defender gets negative resistance-like elemental penalty.

Makes sense, most fantasy RPG games follow the same routine when regarding strengths and weaknesses for elements.
Updated, now that its known that elements can be nulled and the Piercing, and Resistance still works, I work it around.
